How much for a funeral white envelope

Use an odd amount. What matters is that you came — a white envelope is never a competition. For a friend, the range is NT$1,100–1,500. This page lists the ranges by relationship and the rules for a white envelope; every figure cites its source.

Coworker: This figure is one person's share of a group envelope, not what you would give on your own. Giving separately? Start from 1,100 and go up.

Boss: Only one source covers this one, and accounts disagree. Treat it as a reference point, not a rule.

Pick a row by relationship. Immediate family is NT$2,500–6,100, a close friend NT$1,700–3,100, a relative NT$1,000–2,300.

Coworker, NT$500–1,500, is one person's share of a group envelope, not what you would give on your own. Boss, NT$700–5,100, has only a single source and accounts disagree, so treat it as a reference point, not a rule.

When several people share one white envelope, the amount inside must still be odd, as custom requires. Split it evenly and sign the front with the group name and 敬輓, for example 「○○公司同仁 敬輓」. If it does not split evenly, whoever organised it holds or returns the spare.

The rules

White-envelope amounts are always odd — the meaning is "may this happen only once". Never use an even number.

Endings of 1, 3 or 5 are usual: 1,100, 2,100, 3,100. Avoid round numbers like 1,000.

Use a plain white envelope. The notes need not be new, and a restrained amount is the polite one.

Do not expect a gift back. Condolence money is never returned, so the ledger keeps the entry in grey, never red, to remember who came.

The front of the envelope

Sign 敬輓 only. No congratulatory phrase.

The app offers no phrases for the white envelope, only the signature. Leave off the greetings that belong to red envelopes.
